Respiratory Evaluations

The Respiratory Therapy (RT) department has been approved to perform RT evaluations for aerosol (nebulizer) therapy and hyperinflation (IPPB/EZPAP) therapy. To have your patient evaluated, you will place an order for RT to consult.  The respiratory therapist will perform an assessment based on SBAR (Situation, Background Assessment and Recommendation). Once your patient’s needs are identified, the therapist will place an order in the chart based on that assessment. Each patient will then be reevaluated every 72 hours.

Any patient who receives therapy at home will not be altered from their home regimen. If the patient needs more frequent therapy, then we will offer that recommendation; however, it will not be less than the therapy they receive at home. All assessments will be documented in Meditech under process interventions. We have also placed the algorithms for these assessments at each physician’s dictation area.
