The Medical Center of Aurora (TMCA) was one of nine hospitals honored for excellence in organ donation at the 5th National Learning Congress for the Donation and Transplantation Community of Practice in Grapevine, Texas on October 1, 2009.

The honor was bestowed upon hospitals that met or exceeded national goals, organ donation rates and organ transplant rates.  TMCA received the Silver 1 designation which indicates a donation rate greater than 75 percent and an organ transplanted per donor percentage greater then 3.75 percent.  The actual organ donation rate at TMCA is 100 percent.

The award was granted from Donor Alliance.  Their partnership with local hospitals seeks to increase the availability of transplantable organs for individuals on waiting lists throughout the country.

"We are proud of the nine hospitals in our service area for achieving these high performance levels resulting in Medal of Honor awards," said Sue Dunn, president and CEO of Donor Alliance. "It is through their leadership, commitment to donation and transplantation, empathy for donor families and cooperation with our staff that we were able to save 356 lives in 2008."
